Thank you.
Ironic how many of the characteristics of this goddess also show up in the common practices of today’s churches. Waving, singing, free food, converting people, dosile controlled animals who were once people who thought for themselves, staff, alters, burials seeing people into the ground, flock of members, magic oils annointing people, offerings, magic, smoke, wands and saucers for collecting. I even recall a few very old churches in Europe are still called circes. Very coincidental indeed.
Thanks Some Yung Guy, indeed it is no coincidence that other Greek Goddesses such as Hecate or characters such as Medea, showed characteristics similar to Circe. An autonomous, independent, intelligent woman, who is dangerous on a patriarchal society. Just as the Virgin Mary reflects the earth goddess in many different cultures such as in Latin America’s Pachamama. All these female divinities, there are books such as The White Goddess, that explain about agricultural societies, which were mainly matriarchal, connecting the fertility of the ground with a female divinity. These societies were taken and influenced by nomadic and male dominated societies, who imposed a pantheistic divine world dominated by male gods, downgrading the earth and other female goddesses.
Thank you.
